Our EcoPark construction continues again today, October 7. We focused on constructing the boundaries for our seed bank. We were lucky enough to have some of our BaliWise students visit again today to provide their support. The girls moved rocks from the front of the park towards the seed bank. The girls moved the rocks towards the other workers so they could construct the boundary wall of the seed bank. Later, after the girls took a break, they began assisting the construction crew again. The girls shoveled the piles of sand closer to the boundaries of the seed bank. We are grateful for their assistance. We will give out seeds from the seed bank to tour groups once the park is completed. The anticipated date of completion is November 18th and we are moving on schedule to reaching that goal.
On October 7 the main focus was on preparing the seed bank. After this date, we are hoping to build even more facilities. We will include a plastic to oil machine and a glass crusher. We believe that with these tools we will be able to help teach local government officials and businesses about the importance of preventing waste form going into the ocean. Along with that we hope that children will have a fun time looking and touching all the different plants, but that they will also learn a lot! The kids will get to learn about both waste management and growing plants and permaculture. We may give the kids plants, seeds, and herbs because they will become fully engrossed in everything the park has to offer. We believe that the key to more environmentally sustainable practices is to instill the youth with an appreciation of our environment.
