As part of their interactive study, 14 students from Little Star Pre-school participated in our Waste to Wonder program at Zero Waste to Oceans – Community Environment and Skills Center in Sawangan, Nusa Dua Bali. These students focus on learning paper recycling and tie dye.
Students learned the importance of paper recycling and the methods in to do it. First, any paper can be recycled, especially if it’s 100% paper and clean. After cut it to smaller pieces, the used paper is breaking down using blender to make pulp. After that it’s molded using screen and the dried under the sun. All of the students were happy doing the paper recycling.
They also did a tie dye using fabric from used bed sheets that were donated by hotels to our foundation. The fabric is cleaned and mordanted before it is used for tie die. Using Ketapang leaves and turmeric, the natural dye will create beautiful golden yellow color. We explained to the students the benefit of natural color such as environmentally friendly and the left over can be used for watering the plants directly when it’s cold.
They also enjoyed traditional cakes and lemon grass tea. All fund raised during this interactive training will goes to environmental education of women and local children of Bali.
