ECO Youth | Solar Energy Technology Workshop | Friday, May 17th 2019
As part of youth empowerment and workshop, R.O.L.E. Foundation set up Solar Energy Technology Workshop at Zero Waste to Oceans – Community Environment and Skills Center. The workshop comprised of CAD design for 3D printing, 3D printing process, solar energy, Injection Molder and Filament extruder all of it powered by solar energy. Moreover, there was Solar Oven too that used to bake brownies during the workshop.
3D printing is a process of making three dimensional object from digital file. We used PLA, a biodegradable plastic for printing logo, earrings, and other small objects. The bigger the object, the longer the process of printing will be. Participants learned how to operate the 3D printing and printing object.
The other machines act as a small scale of recycling plastic. The idea is to get recyclable plastic, especially HDPE/LDPE melted and shaped like typical filament for 3D printing. The Injection Molder could melt plastic and then the melted plastic could be shaped into something else. Filament extruder melt plastic and shaped it into filament for 3D printer.
Participants also cooked brownies using solar oven, a vacuum glass cylinder with parabola shape underneath for reflecting sun to the glass. The heat measured could be more than 150ºC or even 180 degree.
Today’s workshop was success to introduce these technology to participants, even some of them wanted to have one of solar oven. The workshop intended to be finished at 4 pm but it was finished later at 5.30 because of huge enthusiasm from participants.
